UGAMA TO REINFORCE WEMEN LIVES IN COOPERATIVES.

On 17 February 2021, UGAMA officiated at the journey of accompanying women regrouped into KOABA/Karama cooperative in basketry, ABIBUMBYE/Kamonyi and ITUZE/Kigese in sewing for increasing and improving the means of production.

During its periodical visits and the various exhibitions, UGAMA and its partners ARDE-KUBAHO and MEDICUS MUNDI took into account the experience that the products of aforementioned cooperatives are not competitive at national and local market. As solution, capacity building sessions are planned to reinforce the means of production.

 

To make these sessions’ convened 44 members from the above-mentioned cooperatives successful, UGAMA consultants facilitated capacity building session as part of increasing credibility, shaping image, maintaining the reputation and beating competition. As results, on one hand, these sessions provided good knowledge in basket weaving to these members of KOABA/Karama because their trainers sought them a large market of 200 baskets for 20 days at the price of frw 2500 per basket.

On another hand members of the ABIBUMBYE and ITUZE cooperatives trained in sewing for 15 days at the headquarters of their cooperatives, learned to sew pants, shirts, jackets, breeches, men’s suits and various women’s designs. The knowledge gained helped in poverty alleviation and intensification of socio-economic situation. By now, the members, trained are themselves paying their medical insurance, school fees and feeding their families.
