THE CREATION OF JOBS FOR SINGLE MOTHERS MATTERS FOR UGAMA

From November 2020, UGAMA in partnership with Medicus Mundi planned trainings in sewing, hairdressing and aesthetics for 120 single mothers coming from 6 sectors (KAYENZI, KARAMA, NGAMBA, GACURABWENGE, RUNDA and RUGALIKA) in Kamonyi district with the objective of facilitating the creation of jobs for single mothers in order to improve their economy and their living conditions.

 

UGAMA aims at strengthening the capacities of single mothers through the acquisition of new knowledge, practices and strengthening skills, in order to enable them to increase their production and income. This is to take for its own the SDGs principles especially the one of promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

Single-mothers, have improved their collective and individual endogenous development by acquiring and developing new knowledge and strengthening skills and practices, therefore by among 63 girls among 120, were trained in sewing and 57 in hairdressing and aesthetics.

At the end of training, single mothers were entrusted to women cooperatives supported by UGAMA-ARDE-KUBAHO and Medicus Mundi existing in the sectors to ensure the continued support of the girls and the management of the materials received. UGAMA paid the rental of the rooms and security 3 months in advance to make it easier to integrate into the professional market.
